Course Description
Advanced
Laparoscopic
GI
Surgery
Course
is
provided
by
the
Institute
of
Technology,
Humanities,
the
Arts, Medicine and Science through the faculty of Medical Education.
The
course
aim
is
to
address
the
principle
of
optimising
the
setup
and
progress
of
advanced
procedures
in
this
field.
The
course
is
composed
of
both
theoretical
and
practical
components,
which
will
allow
the
participants to familiarise themselves with the necessary skill set to perform complex tasks.
The
varied
topics
cover
a
wide
range
of
elective
and
emergency
conditions
and
procedures
the
general
as
well
as
the
specialised
laparoscopic
surgeon
will
encounter.
The
participants
will
be
familiarised
with
the
technical
aspects
through
interactive
sessions
as
well
as
detailed
discussions
of
techniques
utilising
extensive
video
material.
Skills
consolidation
is
achieved
through
practical
hands-on
sessions
using
animal tissue as well as manikins.
Learning Outcomes:
On completing the course participants will be expect to:
•
have an insight into the safety aspects of laproscopic access and the modifications necessary in
specific cases.
•
be familiar with the role of laparoscopy in a wide range of emergency procedures in every day
practice, including biliary, antireflux, upper GI, colorectal and solid organ surgery.
•
Learn a range of techniques of intracorporeal ligation, suturing and stapling and spend adequate time
practicing and consolidating their skills.
•
be introduced to the principles of bariatric and hernia surgery.

Certified
trainees
with
an
interest
in
managing
general
surgical
emergencies
as
well
as
elective
conditions requiring advanced laparoscopic skills, Doctors and Surgeons.
